Intact female B/W basenji in kill shelter in Utah

  • My mother-in-law is interested in this girl. She met Aries and now wants an older basenji of her own.
We just need to figure out how to transport her. If we can get her to Denver, CO, we can fly her via Pet Airways to Chicago, and drive her out to Columbus, OH. I am willing to try other airlines if anyone has one to reccommend.
The shelter's address is only about 15-20 minutes from Salt Lake City, I think.

  • I had a good experience with Continental when I had TC shipped out here. Their customer service was very good and they really worked to find a good route that was likely to have the best conditions since no direct flight was available.

  • Do you think you could get any BRAT volunteers in the area to help get her to an airport?

P.S. I still can't believe she was returned because she pooped in the house! It's for the best though. I hope your M-I-L gets her so she'll have a nice home!

I can vouch for Continental as well, extremely nice and caring people when I had Moses shipped here from Minnesota..
Good luck, I hope you MIL finds her perfect older mate soon.

  • I do hope someone rescues her soon.

Looks like there's some confusion as to how long she's been there – one site says Dec. 28, the other says before Thanksgiving.

  • It's the same dog. She was adopted out but was just returned because she "pooped in the house".:mad::mad:

  • I called Continental, and they will fly dogs in cargo in all weather since the cargo is pressurized and climate controlled, and they do not leave their live animal cargo out on the tarmac during loading. Okay. I can live with that.

Now, I need to try to find someone in Utah that can take her for the health cert, get a crate for us, and take her to the airport. If anyone knows anyone in Utah that might be willing to help, please let me know. We will pay of course.

  • the bcoa roster has Jeanie Shipley listed as the rescue contact for Utah. I don't know if she has been contacted, but she might be able to help. Contact me privately if you need her contact info.

  • Just in case anyone wants to know, this girl passed away on Sunday night.

Colorado Basenji Rescue got her transferred over not too long ago. Her name was Estelle.
Peggy said she was incredibly sweet. CBR had her spayed and had her mammary tumours removed.

Peggy said that she ate some boiled chicken, and Peggy only left her for a few hours, and when she came back, Estelle had passed away.

Peggy was really traumatized by it, because she was such a sweet girl.

I feel really sad too, although I am happy that she got at least a few days of good vet care, good food, and love before she passed on. I'm glad she didn't die in the shelter.
It is funny how you can get invested in a dog you have never met.

  • Oh, that's so sad. 😞 She looked like such a sweet girl. I'm glad too that she had someone with her that cared about her before she passed on.

  • How very, very sad - both for Estelle and Peggy. Peggy is one of the best basenji persons around and has contributed countless hours and energy to rescuing basenjis.

RIP little Estelle. I know you'll have the wonderful life you deserve on that side of the door.

  • Oh, how sad…but yes, I am glad she was loved at the end....thanks for passing on this info, Nicole....

  • Houston

Oh my, how sad. I am glad she had a sweet time with Estelle before passing..

  • Rest in peace Estelle
