  • Hey Basenji-lovers,

I'm from Mexico City, and at the time I have no dogs… which is sad, I know. The first time I saw a Basenji pic I insatntly fell in love... then I did an extensive reaserch on the breed and I fell in love even more!!

I have 22 years old and I'm an entrepreneur and stock trader (my own money). I study Business.

Now I'm certain that the dog I want to be my friend for the next years is a Basenji. Actually, I would prefer a Tri-color male... but if the puppy is cute I wouldn't mind if he is not.

Here comes the problem, a really big one: There are no proper breeders in Mexico, just families that decide to sell their puppies ocassionaly... but they're really hard to find. Actually... that's a good business opportunity for american and international entrepreneurs, since I know that the market would be willing to accept this breed.
Well.... returning to the point, I joined the forum to see if any breeder is willing to ship to Mexico City.

If you happen to be a breeder please contact me: albertovillat@hotmail.com
Or if you know somebody that knows somebody, please copy this post and send it to him/her.

    Best regards,
    Alberto

Pd. Sorry for my english, my grammar still sucks a little.

  • Bienvenidos! Glad to see you on the Forums. Lots of really good information here. I can guarantee your English is better than my Spanish. I'm sure you will find the right dog. Keep us posted on the hunt.

  • Welcome..Sounds like you are doing good planing for your new pup. Good luck in finding one in Mexico..are there any associations that you could contact?

  • Welcome to the forum Alberto!
We had a girl in Quer?taro, Mexico.
She loved her life there but met an untimely demise when killed by a pitbull
The guy that had my girl went to college in Mexico, then came tothe US for another college degree before returning back to Mexico with one of my puppies.
His family loved her and it was a perfect place to bask in the sun all day long!
Feel free to visit my website, as we have a couple of puppies still available.

  • Welcome to the forum! I hope you will find the right puppy soon :)

  • Goodluck on your hunt!!!

Since Buster is a rescue, I would highly suggest that you have DNA Fanconi testing done. It is a cheek swab that you do yourself. You can order the test at www.offa.org for 65.00. Money well spent for peace of mind and know your Basenji's status. Scroll down till you get to Fanconi DNA https://secure.offa.org/cart.html

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

@dunappy: Hie all I'm from New Mexico. I currently have two basenji neutered males named George and Ice Man. I lost my female (their mother) this past weekend at the ripe old age of nearly 17. She was born Dec 19th, 1991 and passed away last Friday Oct 12th, 2007. George and Ice Man are both almost 15 having been born Dec 13th, 1993 and both are still healthy and going strong at the moment. however I know here in the next few years I'm going to be without them and I'm starting to look for a young one to bring in. I lost my first basenji female last year after 16 years very hard. I now have 2 a female and a male. Its been fun they are both from the same litter and my son got a male at the sametime.

Welcome and kudos to you for helping with rescues! It sounds like Kowboy was a great introuction to the breed. I'm sorry for your loss of him and Indy. this is a great place to share and keep memories alive. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy relocation back to your family in CA!

I live near the mountains in Colorado. There are some great trails with open space all around to let thme run around. Gosh I'm so jealous!! We don't have any plasce we could let our pooches loose. I would love a big open space sans any basenji prey :) that way they'll come back
