Thanks, I will pickup some SAM-E at the store today, I had no idea what dose! I hope Pete has a comfortable time with you, you are doing everything to keep him happy. My friend's mastif-dobie mix has very high liver enzymes, she is 10 and otherwise looks great. She is slowing down, sleeps a lot but has good appetite, etc., he opted for no more tests (at her age, he would not put her through any treatments other than meds). She loved the liver-cleansing diet, is back on regular now and taking Sam-e; like you, he is just hoping for some good quality time with an older beloved dog. Hugs to Pete!

She has been fixed. As for the falconi, I dont think any of the basenjis that I have have every been tested for it. as for the country hounds and hearts place. I went by the address listed on the site and it appears that no one has been there for a while. Very scary looking place.. overgrown, strange smell, fence pieced together with kennel/crate doors, vacant car. I called the number and it was disconnected and I tried a second number and have been waiting for over a week for someone to call back. We are going to give it the college try to get her "normal" but I want to make sure that I am not doing her a dis-service. I have time before we are slated to move but I also want to make sure that she would be happy. I know deep down that I have not been a great owner to her but I love her very much and don't want to see her harmed in any way. Thanks everyone for the coments and suggestions

Hi gornza, welcome to the forum. Your boy sounds a whopper ;) is it possible he's crossed with a larger dog than a Beagle perhaps?

@Basenjimamma: Welcome Susan. I am so sorry to hear about the ban, though I am glad you can keep them still..if I read that right. I am a swedish girl living in Tx, nice to meet other scandinavians on here. I know this forum will be a wealth of information for you.. I am currently basenjiless as well, but is actively searching for a love too. Thanks :) Yes we can keep the dogs we have - so that's nice ! Nice to hear that I'm not the only one from Scandinavia :)

@Karma: Hi, My 7 months Basenji just got neutered and the rash and hives started after his surgery, he was fine before that. He started getting rash on his belly and broke out in hives. We took him the vet and got him treated, yet the rash and small little hives are still there. We were instructed to give him Benadryl every 8 hrs. Currently he's on Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Dog Food, which contain no artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. I dont know what else to do because he's having trouble sleeping at night. How soon after being neutered? Is the surgery site healed? And I would have to think of a yeast infection… and since the benadryl has not cleared it up, I would insist on the Vet taking a further look. Also, is he on any meds from the surgery?

Hi Sharon; sorry this has taken me so long to get back, I am a home health caregiver and work 12 hour shifts so time schedules are often tight. This forum is one of my pleasurable moments. Anyway….to answer your question, we got our Basenji's from a breeder in Buffalo Minnesota (female) and Minneapolis Minnesota (male). Sorry, don't remember the breeders names.

Sometimes new kids have to 'push their limits' to see how far they can go. Isis found out, not very far! Great job working with her to show her tie right way to act. You may see that behavior from time to time, but it will be the exception, not the rule..so to speak. Kudos to you for working through her issues!
