You have done a great thing for that dog. Bless people like you who will adopted and rescue these wonderful dogs (and I mean any breed). My basenji mix came from a shelter also. She has been a handful, but a very much loved hanful. I wish you well in caring for your new furbaby. Oh, and I have friends who give a benadryl to their standard poodle everyday. Sounds like you have started down the right path for this dog and it's future sounds brighter.

Welcome to the forum. It's nice to see another southerner. Everyone seems to be so far way, either from up north or out west. I am still waiting for another member to join from Tennessee. Can't wait to see pics of your basenji.

I'm not familiar with Glen Flora, we are just outside of Houston, in a suburb SW of it. If you are ever in the city I would love for you to let me know.

Welcome to the forum Noobie. I too got my basenji/whippet mix from a shelter. The best things though, she was approximately 1 1/2 years old at the time (no real puppy chewing problems, although she is destructive with her toys), and she was house broke! I knew nothing about basenjis at the time, but with the help of this forum I am now truly educated about the breed and still learning daily. I look forward to seeing pics of your basenji.

Hi Jill, You mentioned before that we probably live near each other. I just learned here where you aquired Duke! Wow! Was the other pup a black and white? I was initially attracted to the red and white which Joey is, but have seen some beautiful b/w. I doubt we would ever get another dog but it's fun to think what is might be like to have 2 Bs. Perhaps some day we could meet in a park to walk the dogs. Joey is 11 months and not neutered yet. He is tolerant of all dogs and aloof. We met his sister, Tory, who was taken at 8 wks and she is nasty! She snarled,"barked", etc at her brother and he just looked at her like she was crazy! We all laughed! Tory's mom is a friend of mine and how I found Joey. Send me a private email if you are interested. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you.

@Sunny: So the African is larger than the American ?? Ill be posting newer pics tonight i finally got off my lazy rear and took film to be developed… but none of them are with in the last 2 weeks... she looks Basenji just she does bark but its rarely that she does ... and shes not the crisp white and red more a fawn and white... The Africans seem to be bigger, I'm sure there is the exception. Does she bark or is it more like a woof? Some of our basenji's sort of woof, but I wouldn't call it a bark. I don't know if you've ever visited this site, give it a look, lot's of 'Different" looking Basenjis. Navigate to the on-line library, many interesting articles on the Basenji in Africa. http://basenji.org/african/intro.htm http://basenji.org/african/library.htm

Welcome aboard. Look forward to seeing pics of Mary. She sounds like a typical Basenji/Mix. I have a Whippet/Basenji mix and she too is a handful.
