Some years back, during our Shiba Inu and Jindo period our Jindo developed a terrible rash and wht with her licking turned into huge hot spots, loss of hair and everything. Our vet narrowed it down to a grain alergy, suggested we go to an avocado based food, AvoDerm. Within 2 weeks she stopped itching and chewing, and 6 months later all her hair was grown out. As time went by she developed a beautiful luxurious coat, never had another problem with alergies or skin problems. We realize that B's dont have the long double coats like Shibas or Jindos, but our philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it, so we have just continued feeding AvoDerm to our B's as we accumulated our pack. The main problem with it is, if we feed them as reccomended they gain weight, so we really have to watch their diet.

@nouno: His parents are also in Cyprus. His mother is 4 years old. Did not have any problems. His father is 2 years old and also did not have any problems. Not yet. Is too expensive as I have to send all the test to the USA. But I will get through with it as long as I am able to. Age that Fanconi can show up is from usually 3 years all the way till over 10 years

What a sweet face! Thank you for taking her in, she needs a forever home. As Pat indicated, unless you have info on the parents being clear, or at least one clear, she should be tested for Fanconi asap.

She does look like a snug-bug, hard to tell if she is a Basenji mix, she could be, how many Basenji traits does she have? Regarding the cats, our cats already knew a dog when we introduced our Kaiser but still one was easier than the other and then it took time and supervision. Make sure the cats have a high place to feel safe and to be able to watch the dog and don't rush it. We still always supervise as either one could get hurt. Helps If the cats don't run as that is definitely a trigger for them to chase. We also used the crate for time out when teaching him to be calm around the cats. Oh and if you have a litter box don't leave it where she can get to it, it's like a cookie jar to them. Good luck. Jolanda and Kaiser

@Mr: First, let me say 'welcome' to you Pedro. Then I have to tell you that not all pure blood B's have black noses, our little gitl, Bitty, has a dudley nose, dark brown and pink. Our second dog, an adoptee from BRAT (Basenji Rescue And Transportstion) was listed as a Basenji mix but I was totally convinced that he was all B, he had all the physical traits, tight curled tail, pointed nose and stand up ears. His chest is white as is your Neymar's with the white collar. All B's have 4 white feet and the tip of their tails are normally white. As you mentioned he has the normal wrinkles. Taking all of these points as a group your Neymar has all except fro the tail, which in my estimation would make Neymar at about 90% B. So, again, let me say welcome to another new Basenji lover. Thanks, I'm glad that you agree ! I'm getting a pure B now to be Neymar's companion, a black and white female ! I made a thread about her on "Show of your dog" section ! As she grows up i'll manage to even more tell the differences or similarities :)

@SacGirlInSearchOfBasenji: Hi Tanza…I have been following your Facebook page, and enjoyed watching your last litter of pups grow :) I have connected with Lisa Voss of Kinetic Basenjis in Woodland CA, and I am very pleased with her line of dogs and breeding philosophy. Super… Lisa and I have co-bred litters and I am co-breeder/co-owner on Sophie and her baby boy! Please think about coming and spending so time with us (not sure if Lisa is coming since she just delivered a little baby girl of their own in April) but the Basenji Club of Northern California is having our annual puppy match on June 22nd in Oakley, not that far for you. Information can be found at www.norcalbasenjis.org and then go to events and the premium for directions. A good breeder is family once you get a puppy…. and is there for you during all the ups and downs! We are in the Sac area for shows every now and again and will be in Vallejo June 8th and 9th for shows. Will post the show times if you might be able to come. Carly, from my litter will debut in the ring for the first time... always fun to watch! Glad that you like watch C-Me's litter grow up... they were amazing, I was so happy with all of them as are their new owners!

HI, we don't have many breeders in New Zealand but luckily there was one that had a website which came up when I did a search on the web and was given information about more breeders here. If you do find a breeder please make sure they are a responsible breeder and do all the health testing etc. Lot's of info on this forum regarding this and maybe someone can help further. Good luck with your search. Jolanda and Kaiser

Hi, you have a nice little pack. When I see my boy play with the dogs at the dog park, they get into their little packs and have turns at being chased I wish I had a pack, the look on his face is pure delight. Hope to see some pics of your pack. Enjoy the forum. Jolanda and Kaiser

Hi, welcome. Lucky you getting a puppy, so exciting shame they grow so fast. Being on a waiting list is so hard, but it is all worth it in the end. Can't wait for puppy photos on the forum. Jolanda and Kaiser

You can help allergic reaction with most breeds by simply grooming regularly and wiping down with even something like baby wipes. But no dog is hypoallergenic. If your allergies are mild you can do what many of us do, just take antihistamines. :) If severe, sadly you should not count on a basenji to no set them off. Some nonshedding dogs do better, but they also have dander and saliva, so they also are NOT hypoallergenic.

LOL they look so wild and stressed out, NOT! I love this breed, it's full tilt whatever they are doing– play or rest. :) Welcome back.
