Hi Sadie, Lily had the first four tests done at one clinic and the next five done at another. The results have been all over the board at both places. Dr. Gonto thought about possible lab error early on. Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas. Keep them coming please. PMP

@Brushyrun: I joined the BCOA back when their Bulletin was just a few sheets of paper stapled together. I don't know where in Arizona you spend your winters, but there is a Basenji Club in the Phoenix area. "Basenji Fanciers of Greater Phoenix". They don't meet very often during the summer but they do during the winter. Hey there Bev, welcome!!!

You will find a lot of new friends here. Do you need the site to order the cheekswab? You order it and do it at home. Very easy!

MacPack - Was it around 10-11 a.m? We were out there then :) We live very close by and I love taking her out to Bayshore to run her around. We usually try to go in the evenings after work so she can run out all that puppy energy :) I'm so bummed we didn't make it today! We woke up to a downpour over here that didn't end until almost noon. We had planned on going, though! We took her to the Davis Island dog beach and she had a good time! If the weather is nice, we'll be at West Dog Park next Sunday! I'm so excited to introduce her to other basenjis! Sharronhurlbut - a few other people have mentioned bull terrier as well, because of the nose. I can definitely see it but wondering if she'd be bigger since they get around 40-50 pounds? We're almost tempted to do a doggie DNA test to find out :)

Welcome Bryan. My husband and I met you last year at the EBC Specialty (my husband uses a wheelchair). At that time, we were basenji-less. We now have Kipawa, our 11 month old companion dog, that we were able to get from Therese and Kevin Leimback. He's our pride and joy. :)

I think you're doing the right thing and in the meantime be very careful with her around the children. I hope you find asuitable home soon.

@agilebasenji: WOW - those are some amazing pics! welcome. please let us know your secret for socializing your basenji with fawns. Mine obsess over the neighbor's goats. LOL, mine would have been more the crazy over trying to get to them… but then again, maybe not. We were at a lure trial and there were cows grazing in the field next to the lure field. Both girls were totally into trying to talk to the critters... so far as to lick their noses through the fence.

Those muttlucks look wonderful! There are lots of good websites that will show jackets and fleeces for your B. I wouldn't think feeding needs to change when it gets really cold unless he spends lots of time outdoors - some basenjis actually love the snow, so they say, although mine would not. Once the plows come through and you have running or walking room, his exercise doesn't have to suffer either. I lived in Vermont for a few years and our dogs (not basenjis then) managed just fine, both the longhaired ones and the sleek great dane. Basenjis have a lot less body weight, though, so a good warm fleece or fleece lined jacket would be in order. It gets real obvious when they're cold - they stop moving, shiver a lot, and try to get picked up! Of course mine does that at 55 degrees.

Have you read Control Unleashed? There was a blind basenji that would go up to sniff a human and then would nip. So they taught this pup a sniff then retreat type of behavior. The Look at That game, whiplash recall, mat work, off switch game are great for this sort thing. I think the basenji was talked about a lot on the CU list about a year or two ago, you may want to join and check the archieves.

@Basenjilover74: Hello fellow Basenji lovers! I am looking for a reputable breeder here in Alaska. Anyone have a good contact? I am willing to go to Seattle if I must. Finding one here would be fabulous though. I want one by Christmas for my kids (9&4). They have been asking for a dog for three years, and I have done my research, and want this amazing breed! Thanks to any and all for your help!;) If you are interested in visiting a Basenji in person… feel free to email me and we can get that set up for you. There are a number of Khani's Basenjis in Alaska and I am sure their folks would love to share their babies with you. This would give you a better idea if you really do want a Basenji.

Welcome to the Forum! The pictures are very good close ups and show off the mirrors to the B's soul! Hope you get as much out of the forum as I did AFTER I adopted my first. Even as my second time around, I love hearing and learning more about how Basenjis rule! Sorry for your loss, but blessing to you and hugs to Star!

@MacPack: Welcome to you and Perry, he is a great looking boy. Keep posting lovely photos, your farm looks wonderful. It sounds like you and Perry (and the horses) have a wonderful life. We do O.K. Perry is the youngster around here, at 7 years old. The rest of us are seniors! I am retired, as is my husband and our three horses. Oldest to youngest, 35,29,25. Here are the two oldest, taken a couple of years ago (but they can still run when they've a mind to) [image: 02counthero.jpg] And here is Perry, worn out from catching up on the news…. [image: 01nap.jpg] I call this one "Don't bug me, I'm sleeping!" [image: dontbugme.jpg] Thank you all for the warm welcome to the forum. I've been rather busy, getting into trouble on another thread. You know what they say about retired folks, we know everything, and have the time to tell you about it! :D
