Some dogs, as the others have said, just run better by themselves. I'm not very fortunate as mine, for the most part, won't run away from me, but I'm working on it. We wear muzzles up in Canada and after they get used to them, they get excited when they see them come out.

This coming weekend there is LGRA and NOTRA in Orange County. My mom has the information. I think there is also some racing in December in Orange County. Don't know what the show schedule looks like or if these conflict with any. I do know this time of year is the racing season in So Cal since the parks are available.

Hi All, Would love to brag about my Rocky,UKC Champion Kiroja Chicago Hood at Jaroufa,SGRC,ORC He got 5 pts over the week-end at the PHAST NOTRA meet and is currently #1 NOTRA Basenji for the year with 19.5 pts. In two weeks we go to regain his #1 spot in LGRA.I'm trying to make him the first basenji in history to hold the #1 spot in both LGRA/NOTRA. Rocky is a SUPERDOG! Lightning fast and a momma's boy. I'm sooooooooo proud of him and hope to have many more years of racing with him. Kathryn D. Ladick Jaroufa Hounds

Again I will say - even though there are some on the list that have great success at a dog park - I don't reccommend the use of dog parks for any breed - disease and no control of the other people and dogs. If you have Alpha basenjis - that just compounds the situation. You need to train them seperately - because together you are NOT in charge. If you HAVE to go to a dog park - don't have both of them there. You will need obedience training and even then - an Alpha dog is an Alpha dog and they will do what Alpha's do - demand to be in charge.

I've got two B x's and I really feel your pain about trying to train them both at the same time! As others have said, it's best to try to get some alone time with each of them and then work them together….. As for when out walking, I have the same issue...our first born is much better behaved, except when they are together in which case he just stirs up trouble with the other one. What we have found works the best is to take them down to the park on leads, and then let the better behaved one off the lead and attach his lead to the others lead (so it's now twice as long) and do a few laps of the park with one off lead and the other on a long lead. Once we've gotten them around a few times and they are both a bit more settled we let the other one off. This works brilliantly. Once they are both off, they behave fairly well and come when called. If we started off with them both off they just tend to wind each other up and end up running around like crazy animals. As far as getting them to 'leave it' when off lead....I have had some success with this, although not always (foster rubbed his face in something very gross just the other day YUCK). I find a very stern 'leave it' works most times, however if it doesn't, I get as close to them as possible and clap my hands really loudly followed by a 'leave it' as loud as I can. I think this just shocks them and gets their attention away from whatever disgusting thing they were looking at. Best of luck to you!!!

@Tayda_Lenny: yeah, I saw that too.. but then why call it "early" entries… if really that is the only time to enter? Oh well... Exactly.. that would be my question too….. really confusing... maybe that is how they always do their premiums, but it is really confusing to new people.... and I have seen many a premium in my day...gggg

HAHAHAHA…. yes, listening and responding are 2 different things. There's 'I'm listening but not responding because I choose to do so', there's 'listening and I'm looking at you but I'm pretending you're speaking a foreign language', there's 'Im listening, but the treat you have is not good enough.'

@agilebasenji: So perhaps he wasn't shredding his bedding because he was stressed. He was probably shredding it because it's fun! Apparently, it is fun! Mine doesn't take the bedding out the door of the crate, she prefers to pull it through the wires and drags the crate halfway across the room. I'm picking my battles with her as she has had a rough life. When I say "No.." my girl gives me that wrinkled forehead look as if to say, "whatever…" and goes off to find something else that is entertaining.

"Iggys" <snicker>:D That makes perfect sense to train "lie down". I totally agree - we don't need a trainer so she can train the b's; it's so she can train us to train them. Oh, and just train us in general, most likely :p</snicker>
