Seems like the DNA sample would be easier to get too. I guess the advantage of the sperm count is that you at least know if the sire is fertile or not.
Good luck, can't wait to see pictures of the pups to be.
Haha.. she IS huge..
I hope the last week won't take forever…. Those last days are always the slowest to go by..
You know we're going to expect live updates, right?
You know we're going to expect live updates, right?
You're right! Forgot to say: WE WANT PICS!!
So, she will get a bit bigger?
Yes, she will get even bigger this week. At this point the puppies are doing lots of growing. Her x-ray appointment is 1 week from today and then we should have a good idea of how many we will be delivering.
I will do my best to post lots of pictures of the newborns. Everyone can also check the blog on October 31st, http://www.basenjinet.net/08litterblog/ for updates.
Is this her first litter? I hope all goes well. Give her a little belly rub from us
This will be TC's second litter. She had 5 pups in her first litter.

She looks huge? did you ultrasound? Do you have an idea on how many pups to expect??
At 28 days from insemination, the vet saw definately 3 and said maybe 4. Last week, when she was at the vet, he said 4 maybe 5. So we will see what the x-ray shows. We sort of think that when the vet did the first ultrasound he only saw one horn of the uterus.
How is she doing now??
How is she doing now??
I am not Lisa, but talked to her last night, they were expecting TC to deliver any time between last night and tonight. But I have not heard yet that anything happened yet….
We are the "a watched basenji never whelps" stage. She is restless for a while and we start thinking, okay maybe now, then she decides "Nope, I think I just want a snack and a nap". The pups are quite low now and she is getting milk so we know it should be soon but she isn't giving any hints about when.
She woke my mom up an hour ago with digging and digging, then as soon as my mom was up she decided "just checking, nevermind." Now she is opening the cabinets in the kitchen, which she did quite a bit last night too.
Looking for a place to hide perhaps?? In anticipation of all those puppies?
Maybe but she also just really likes opening cabinets because it gets everyone's attention. After she finished in the pots and pans cabinet she went up to guest room and got in her crate and began to dig for a while, now she is back to opening cabinets. She also is asking for food but then if it isn't the "right" food she doesn't want it and goes back to the guest room to dig some more. If it is the "right" food then she eats it and settles for 30 minutes and then we start again.
Sounds like she is really close…. Maybe for a change, you will get "day time" puppies....
Maybe, that would be nice. She has settled down again for now.
I take back the settled down, she is just very slowly migrating from the guest bedroom to the living room and back, now she is check out master bedroom. So I guess she is just taking a leisurely grand tour of the house scoping out where she wants the pups.
NEWS!?!?!
I'm keeping your blog open in one of my browser tabs. Of course the B Forum is almost always open in a tab also. Puppies? Still touring the house?
I keep seeing new posts from you in other threads and I"m like ggggguuuuh tell us!
It has been a very long day. Hard labor started at about 7:30am. At 8:15am the first puppy was delivered, a black boy. After that she was pretty frantic for about an hour. She couldn't really settle. We would let her have her boy and he would nurse for a while then she would get too frantic and was moving around too much so we would take him away. At 9:25 contractions started again. The continued for an hour with no puppy and she was pushing hard each time they hit so we called the vet. They had us come in for an x-ray. The pups were just not moving toward the birth canal. The vet was worried if she kept pushing so hard for so long she would get too tired to keep delivering so she gave her a shot of oxytocin to help move them along. At 11:30am the second puppy was delivered, another black boy. At 11:55 the third puppy was born, another black boy. At 12:30 the last puppy was born, a red girl. From the x-ray there was still something in there so another shot of oxy. We found that it was a partially reabsorbed fetus. So she got another shot of oxy before she was sent home. She is comfortably napping while the pups nurse and nap. Pictures soon.
Oh my I hope everyone is OK (including you). Congratulations. I bet you are beat too.
Congrats to TC and Kinetic Basenjis….. glad to hear all is OK now... I can bet it was pretty stressful for a while there.... and for anyone wanting to breed... take heart... it is not for the faint of heart...
