They are all so beautiful! What a proud momma you should be. :)

  • Nameless huh?:rolleyes::D

They are great pictures Andrea, very nice photo work…...really!:D

She really looks like she fits right in and she looks so exotic.......very cool looking. Love the B-pile, all of your B's are barootiful.

Thank You for sharing......eh, keep them coming.;)

  • Beautiful photos! Ariel is so unique and rich looking. They are all beautiful.

  • Thanks B-Boy, Vanessa and Jill …she does look exotic, doesn't she! My Dad said politley 'is she going to look more like the other dogs when she grows up?' he was particularly wondering why her tail isn't very curly ;) We had a little lesson about africans vs. domestics :)

The really amazing thing is how MUCH she camouflages! Maybe it is a brindle thing?,or her type of smudgy brindle...but, it is REALLY hard to find her in the yard, or even the couch! I think she looks like an African Wild Dog pup ;)

She looks like she belongs on the Michael Work calendar! She does look like a wild dog pup, but I like the Africans, loose tail and all. I find ours to be just as lovable as the domestics if not more. Where I see a difference is in how they deal with each other. My Africans seem to be more intense over who's who in the social order.

  • she is beautiful. I love the Brindle. I am new to this so can you give some background on the African vs. Domestic. I am not sure what that means.

Due to a limited gene pool, they went to Africa and brought back more dogs.

This site will help, be sure to check the online library.

The 'domestic' lines of Basenjis come down from about 12 original dogs imported to the western world in the 1930s.

There were the imports BBoy mentioned added in the late 1980s. Then there were more imports brought in over the last few years, who will also hopefully be added to the AKC registry in the next year or so.

Most of the latter day imports, and their decendants (when bred to other Avongara dogs) go by the registered name "Avongara" ..which indicates they are 100% blood from recent imports. Some breeders focus on breeding lines of Avongara dogs to keep long lines of separate genetic material. Some breeders mix Avongara lines with their domestic to infuse new genes. Some breeders have only domestic lines.

All Basenjis with the brindle pattern go back to the Avongara dogs somewhere in their pedigree. That is a color that was reintroduced with the 80s imports.

Hopefully that helps a little :)

  • wahhh! i want another one! no fair, no fair.

@Kipawa: I love the licking/kiss picture. You can tell your basenji's almost think of Ryan as "their property". Great coursing photos - once your b's catch the lure, what is the look on their face? Is it like "darn it, I thought I was chasing a rabbit", or is just having the lure good enough for them. Sending you some nice hot tea and unpollinated fresh air. Hope you are feeling better soon. The only thing they think is: GOT IT GOT IT GOT IT :D

We all love our dogs, be they PB, mixes or maybes…. I think the main thing we all have in common is that we want to learn how to read our dogs so we can be the best humans they can own.

You may want to try frequently rewarding him for staying still before he gets a chance to complain. You can then start building up time between treats once he gets the idea that standing still will get him a reward.

Love your pictures, he is so cute. I love the one with the stuffed animals as well, Sahara plays fetch with hers and even throws them up in the air to catch by herself. I think she would do good with a playmate, but the hubby says no for now, I think I will change his mind in time. :D :D
