LOL, I can just imagine Spencer's surprise when the frog jumped. I can imagine he probably also jumped like a cat. I love when they do that little cat-like jump.
Dolce loves to paw at the little frogs. I don't know what she would have done if the turtle came out of its shell.
Oh, how I love the mannerisms of the Basenji. They're so cute.
Dolce has two different eye colors!

I was staring, for what was probably hours at pictures of Dolce that the breeder has taken, side shots in the typical show stance, and I couldn't get why I was able to see her eye when all the other puppies eyes where not visible from a side view. She e-mailed me today that she has developed one blue eye and one brown eye and if I was still interested in purchasing her. I am TOTALLY in love with her. I have never seen a Basenji with two dif colored eyes. Only thing I wonder is if it will be a health issue at all such as blindness or anything for that matter since she is so much different than all the others? Ohhh I can't wait to have her! She is now 5.5 weeks!

That is so weird but at the same time totally adorable! If the breeder gets the eyes cerf'd (which good breeders do) before they go to their new homes I would not worry about it unless it becomes an issue when the eye doc looks at them.
-
Oh, whatever color her eyes are - she is gorgeous! As long as there is no medical concern - I think her eyes are very cool - like David Bowie!!!
-
That's so funny I had no idea he has two different colored eyes and in the same way she does… I pray she will be healthy and not have any issues because of her eye coloration.

Yup! He sure does - and one pupil is permanently dilated. This has nothing to do with Dolce, but it's an interesting factoid, and when people ask you about her eyes, you can say David Bowie is her father! LOL! Good luck with any eye tests the breeder has done. I am sure everyone here will send prayers of good health for her!

Thank you!
-
How lucky are you! I think you are going to be the parent of one of the most unique Basenjis on the planet.
-
I was thinking the same thing. The breeder seemed very worried that I would go back on the purchase of her I was like like H*LL NO! I want her hahah
-
As long as her eyes are alright that is awesome! she is a cute little girl!
-
That would be a significant fault if you were going to show her - and 'sometimes' in 'somebreeds' can be an indicator for deafness. Never heard of that being the case in basenjis. So if you want a companion - shouldn't matter.
-
Very cool. I've heard of at least one other basenji (from a reputable breeder) with a blue eye. To me, she just gets more adorable with her uniqueness!!
-
Oh I was not showing her at all don't worry strictly companion. She will be spayed when she is of age.

One of our Canadian members, if she wants to chime in I'm sure she will, had a puppy with a blue eye. She had him tested and he had a normal eye. It was just like Dolce's, very, very blue. There wasn't an issue with it. He did show with it and did quite well, because other than the blue eye, he was a very nice boy. His eye eventually turned back to brown, with no issues. So, if Dolce's a pet, and there aren't any issues, I wouldn't worry too much, just love her!!

I would get the pup examined by a specialist, not just the vet. But I had asked about this a while ago and some of the breeders chimed in with good info so I suggest you read it (well the first part until the "FL Wimauma dogs aren't pure" debate began):

Cara's possible sire has a blue eye.
Here are the "not really basenjis": http://basenjirescue.blogspot.com/2011/09/wimauma-basenjis-update.html
Pam also has videos for the group. The blue eye dog is Pogo. http://basenjirescue.org/CalendarContest/ViewOne.asp?EntryID=610 -
This is the 2nd B puppy that I have seen this year with one Blue eye. And while it is rare in our breed, it does happen. Typically there is no problem with sight, however, please make sure that they have her examined and CERF'ed by a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, just to be sure there there are no problems. As already noted, most all responsible breeders have their litters examined by an Ophthalmologist before sending them to their new homes.
And there is no DQ in our breed so still can be shown. There is at least one or two AKC Basenji Champions with blue eyes.

She's a very cute puppy, with any color eyes! I'm sure you'll have many long, happy years with her.

- Thank u for that link I have read it. Its very insightful!

Were very honored that you named her after our girl!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your dogs name is Dolce as welll? Basenji?

If the pups eyes have not been examined by an opthalmologist, I would definitely have it done. It depends on the type of PPM the dog has. My boy has PPM and other eye problems in one eye. He is an interesting case for the opthalmologists. He was highly wanted by the commercial breeders at the dog auctions because of his blue eye and I had to pay a lot more for him than his other littermates! He was almost 3 months old. Thank goodness he did not go to a breeder.
