LOL…my B hides her rawhide chew everyday...she doesn't chew on it just hides it...what is she waiting for?? I have a bag full of them for her...silly girl.

I think at this point it's not really a huge matter of whether your dog is African, whether you want to register w/AKC, {nor how much love you give him}, but of doing something to get a handle on this breeder. If she's not breeding well, and if she's passing herself and her dogs as something they are not, she needs to be stopped.

And, as Tanza said, getting some picture as to the health history of your dog's family tree.

Yeah there are a good amount of them down here every weekend we see basenji's @ the dog park. I heard there are alote in New York too.
They actually have a basenji dog park meet up I saw a picture on line and it must have been like 35 B's!

Our little girl came home at 10 weeks and had dirty ears. She then got some redness. On her vet visit they confirmed she had a yeast infection in her ears. Medicine cleared it up, and she's got super shiny ears now.:)

You can always check to see if the plant is poisonious or not on the ASPCA's website, they have a list of toxic things to dogs and if you are still concerned you can call the animal poison control phone number and speak with a vet on duty (know this from experience with my Fajita vegtable eating Puggle 😞 )

Sometimes I actually think basenjis have magic pee. The grass always seems to be greener in those spots. 😃

Having your Basenjis get used to crates by riding does help…in the long run.. the start besides things like feeding them in the crate... to associate the crate with fun times.... and when you are at an event... the crate becomes as safe haven... and a place to crash... at our lure trial in March... Kobey was there.. I always have crates in my van... and with so much activity going on... Kobey was very happy to be in the crate and taking a nap....

Isn't Jon great! I knew of him in the zoo world, long before I got involved in Basenjis. It was really funny to find a link in both places.

I've met him once, but my oldest son finds him very interesting indeed. Pretty cool occupation, zoo design.

I do agree with Tanza that yous hould check what is under the deck stairs that cause her booboo. My B loves to dig so I think you should check out what can hurt Lillie in case she is inclined to be a digger like my B. Hope she feels better. Give her lots of hugs and kisses.

I also find Shadow Hummph's when he is picked up-but he does want to be picked up and cuddled. I'll say uppies(yeah, I know) and if he wants up he'll walk right into my arms but still Hummph. The girls don't make a sound at all.

Let me know when you find out how to get a B to not surf your tables, kitchen counters, bathroom counters, bedroom furniture for things. My B, Sahara, does this all the time, and we have pretty much cleared all tables of my nick nacks, picture frames, coffee table books and such. Sahara has destroyed many of my things when she grew tall enough to stand on those hind legs and reach real f a r, with that long neck. She pretty much knows the Leave It Command, but she is stubborn which is a B trait. So, good luck, and just make sure you put up your valuables for now.

Oh yes, I've stepped on my fair share of hooves in the night, in the morning, in the afternoon… when they seem pretty well-chewed on, I toss 'em.
